Midsomer Workshop Success

The Town Hall (aka Causton Town Hall) was the setting for a highly successful Midsomer Workshop on Wednesday 22nd June, attended by over 50 local businesses and residents. It was opened by the Mayor, Cllr Linda Emery, who commented, ‘People were surprised to learn how many episodes Thame has been in – it’s one of the most-filmed Midsomer places with around 15 film locations, as well as lots of recognisable street scenes. Midsomer visitors can take selfies with our Causton Town Hall sign and enjoy a Barnaby Bun at Rumsey’s, and there are lots of other great ideas to explore’.

The workshop was held to help local businesses attract more visitors to Thame. Owners of hotels and guest houses, shops, pubs, cafes and others heard from tourism expert Sarah Osborne how Midsomer tourism is still growing, with its twentieth year in 2017. 6.5 million people watch Midsomer Murders in the UK alone and millions more in over 100 countries worldwide. It’s one of our biggest TV exports.

Jean Gamester of Semaphora Consulting hosted discussion groups. She said ‘There was a fantastic buzz – it was great to see such enthusiasm and energy. I look forward to seeing how Midsomer develops in Thame.’ Other feedback was just as positive – ‘The event was great’, ‘A brilliant evening’, ‘A well-thought out and well-planned workshop.’
