Ham Wood coppicing volunteers needed!
Ham Wood volunteers will be coppicing hazel and other shrubs on Thursday 25 January.
Coppicing is a traditional way of managing woods which involves the cutting down of some trees to encourage new shoots to grow from the cut stumps. Cut branches will be used to protect young regrowth from browsing.
This will help rejuvenate some areas and create a more diverse structure to this wood, which should benefit wildlife.
Work has been approved by the Forestry Commission, who have issued a felling licence.
If you would like to volunteer to help us with this work, we will be starting at 10am.
Bowsaws and loppers can be provided, but please bring your own work gloves and suitable clothing and boots.
