Thame Mayor, Cllr Andy Gilbert is currently embarking on an inspiring journey as part of a group of cyclists riding to Montesson, Thame’s twin town in France.

The group set off from the town centre on Wednesday, 11 September, and hope to arrive in Montesson by Friday, just in time for the “twinning weekend” festivities.

Mayor Gilbert’s goal is to raise £1,500 for his chosen charities: the Sharing Life Trust and the Lord Williams’s School Young Carers. His fundraising efforts have already garnered significant support, with his Just Giving page receiving over £850 in donations so far.

In preparation for this ambitious ride, Andy participated in the Thame Cycle Club’s ‘Charity Everesting’ event on Saturday, 31 August. Club members collectively rode up Aston Hill 76 times, matching the elevation of Mount Everest, to raise funds for Helen & Douglas House.

Andy himself managed five trips up and down the hill and had the pleasure of meeting some of Helen & Douglas House’s clients, including Jack and Bobby, who reside in Thame.
