Exhibition Dedicated to Thame’s Secret Hero, Johnny Smythe

On Saturday 26 October, Thame Museum will launch a new exhibition dedicated to the incredible story of Johnny Smythe QC MBE OBE, one of only 60 Africans to serve in the RAF during WWII.

Smythe flew several missions before being shot down and captured by the Nazis. He later went on to play an important role in the Windrush story. Upon retirement, he moved to Thame and is buried in St. Mary’s churchyard.
