OCC Begins Rollout of 20mph Speed Signs

A new 20mph speed sign installed on Cromwell Ave, Thame

Oxfordshire County Council has begun rolling out 20mph speed signs in Thame. The rollout is expected to be completed by the end of November/early December.

The county council cabinet member for transport management, Andrew Gant, approved the new transport rules at a meeting on Thursday 5 September. It takes the total number of approved 20mph schemes in the county to 214 since the project began in 2022.

OCC Councillor Gant said, “Throughout the delivery of this programme we have been clear about the advantages it brings. You are seven times more likely to survive if you are hit by a car driving at 20mph than if you are hit at 30mph.

“Reducing speeds in residential areas is a vital pillar of our commitment to Vision Zero – our ambition to eliminate deaths and serious injuries from road traffic collisions in Oxfordshire by 2050.”

Thame Roads Revised to 20mph

Here is a list of the roads that will have 20mph speed signs placed on them. Please note, this list may not include every road that has been revised, as not all roads will have signs if they are within the spacing requirements of a sign on a different road:

Oxford Rd, Priest End, Sycamore Drive, Maple Rd, Cedar Crescent, Hawthorn Ave, Chestnut Ave, Beech Rd, Hazel Ave, High St, Brook Ln, Southern Rd, Moreton Ln, Conduit Hill Rise, Coombe Hill Crescent, Aylesbury Rd, Roundhead Drive, Cromwell Ave, Queens Cl, Bell Ln, Lashlake Rd, Brookside, Moorend Ln, Chalgrove Rd, Berkeley Rd, North St, Wellington St, Ludsden Grove, Rooks Ln, Upper High St, Park St, East St, Nelson St, Holliers Cl, Elms Rd, Massey Rd, Jane Morbey Rd, Youens Drive, Broadwaters Ave, Van Dieman’s Rd, Hampden Ave, Corbetts Way, Windmill Rd, Hamilton Rd, Grenville Way, Vane Rd, Kingsey Rd, Ormond Rd, Marsden Rd, Onslow Dr, Langdale Rd, Wentworth Rd, Croft Rd, Kings Rd, Seven Acres, Queens Rd, Towersey Rd, Thame Park Rd, Dormer Rd, Chinnor Rd, Croft Close, Essex Rd, Cotmore Gardens, Towersey Drive, Fanshawe Rd, Cheshire Rd, Pickenfield, Pearce Way.
