Mayor’s Charity Evening
Join the Mayor, Cllr Andy Gilbert, for a screening of ‘Jemima and Johnny’, a touching short film about the friendship between a white boy and a black girl in 1960s London.
Following the screening, local resident Eddy Smythe will host a talk and Q&A. He will share the fascinating story of his father, John Henry Smythe, QC, MBE, OBE, whose distinguished career included navigator with RAF Bomber Command, senior officer on HMT Windrush, barrister and Attorney General of Sierra Leone. Johnny Smythe lived in Thame from 1991 to 1996, is buried in St Mary’s churchyard, and is the subject of the recently opened exhibition at Thame Museum.
The screening will be hosted by Thame Cinema 4 All, with all proceeds going to the Mayor’s charities.
