Have You Registered Your Support?
Thame Town Council is currently distributing a flyer to over 5,300 local households in an effort to garner support for the development of a Community & Youth Centre in town.
Thame Town Council needs to confirm public support for the project if it is to secure a Public Works Loan for the build, which may include a council tax precept increase of up to £35 a year (Band D) for loan repayments.
About the Centre
The Community and Youth Centre will see a complete revitalisation of the Southern Road Recreation area, providing a dedicated club for Thame’s youth, a community hall with a capacity for over 200 people, catering kiosk, conveniently located public toilets, and an extension to the Scout Headquarters, providing additional facilities, accessibility, and storage.
The project will also incorporate a refreshed playground with substantial additional trees, planting, and new natural play areas, and a rejuvenation of the park adjacent to the Cuttle Brook conservation area.
Local Business Shows Early Support
Since the release of the flyer, Lightfoots Solicitors have kindly offered to provide financial assistance to Thame Youth Projects to help with initial running costs.
On social media, the company stated: “Lightfoots Solicitors has been part of Thame’s community for over 170 years, with multiple generations of families both as clients and members of Lightfoots (Henry Ovens followed both his Father, John Ovens, and Grandfather, Charles Ovens, into the firm). Supporting our community is really important to us and being able to play a part in protecting and enhancing the quality of life in Thame for the next three generations, and beyond, is an honour. By sponsoring this important project now we will be able to support the existing work that takes place for the young people of Thame, while the building project takes place.”
The final flyer letterbox drop should be completed this week. Anyone who doesn’t receive a flyer can pick one up from the Town Hall Information Centre.
More information about the Youth & Community Centre can also be found on the Council’s website.
