Mayor’s Charity Screening
Join the Mayor for a special screening of “Jemima and Johnny” on Saturday 1st February at the Thame Players Theatre.
This touching short film about the friendship between a white boy and a black girl in 1960s London, will be followed by a talk and Q&A with local resident Eddy Smythe, who tells the fascinating story of his father, John Henry Smythe, QC, MBE, OBE.
Johnny Smythe’s distinguished career included navigator with RAF Bomber Command, senior officer on HMT Windrush, barrister, and Attorney General of Sierra Leone. He lived in Thame from 1991 to 1996, is buried in St Mary’s churchyard, and is the subject of the recently opened exhibition in Thame Museum.
Hosted by Thame Cinema 4 All, proceeds from the night will go to the Mayor’s charities. £10.00 per ticket, available from thamecinema.org.uk.
