Flood Alleviation Work to Commence at Cuttle Brook Nature Reserve

Works to help with flood alleviation at Cuttle Brook Nature Reserve have been scheduled to commence this week. The work is expected to help reduce the likelihood of flood waters reaching homes that back onto the Nature Reserve.

Since the heavy rain and flooding at the end of 2023, which saw at least one home flood, Thame Town Council has been working with South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) to find suitable solutions to reduce the likelihood of flood water reaching the homes on Cedar Crescent.

Initial works were carried out in Spring 2024 as engineering investigations continued. This week’s works are expected to better control the volume of water that enters the watercourse behind the homes.

The Town Council are very grateful that a funding application to Oxfordshire County Council for 50% of the cost of the works has been successful and Land Drainage Consent, which covers the work, has been granted by SODC.
