At Thame Town Council’s meeting last week, Members agreed to postpone the Annual Town meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday 30 March 2021 until after the County Council elections on 6 May 2021. There was concern that the Town Council could be in breach of the guidelines for the pre-election (Purdah) period which starts on 29 March. The Annual Town meeting is a meeting of the electorates and not the Council. Given that last year’s Annual Town meeting was cancelled due to Covid-19, Members were keen that a meeting was held this year. The current legislation that permits virtual council meetings expires on 7 May and there remains some uncertainty as to whether it will be extended and how the Town Council would hold a Covid-19 compliant meeting in person.
