Voter ID required for you to vote in May
The May 2023 local elections will be the first time that voters in the UK will be required to show photo ID when voting at a polling station.
A range of photo ID will be accepted, including passports, driving licences, disabled parking blue badges and cards with a PASS Mark. Expired ID is acceptable, as long as the photograph is still a true likeness of you.
If you don’t have an accepted form of photo ID, you can apply now for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. If you need to apply for ID, you must do so by 5.00pm on 25 April in order to vote in this election.
For more information, including the full list of accepted ID and on how you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate, visit The Electoral Commission website electoralcommission.org.uk/voterID or call 0800 328 0280.
The deadline to register to vote is 11.59pm on 17 April and the postal vote deadline is 5.00pm on 18 April.
