All you need to know about April’s extra garden waste collection
Residents who are subscribed to the District Council’s brown bin garden waste service in South Oxfordshire or Vale of White Horse can have extra garden waste collected for free, on their normal collection day only, between 15 and 26 April.
You can put out a maximum of up to four additional sacks of garden waste, per brown bin subscription, next to your brown bin.
To be eligible for collection – the extra waste must contain only natural garden waste, such as cut grass, plants or branches and be placed in standard sized (60L) sacks or in boxes / containers totalling no more than a standard bin full. Where possible, please use cardboard boxes as these are much more environmentally friendly than plastic sacks.
Please DO NOT use tonne builders’ waste bags – our crews will not collect any garden waste from these.
Cllr Sue Cooper, Cabinet Member for Environment at South Oxfordshire District Council said: “With the days getting longer, people will be spending more time in the garden. If you have cuttings from overgrown plants and trees and you’re not able to compost them at home, this is a great opportunity for a tidy up and to have them collected.”
Cllr Mark Coleman, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Waste at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Before putting your extra garden waste out, remember to check you are using the correct sacks or containers. Our crews can’t collect any waste left in re-enforced sacks, so please don’t leave those out.”
All the garden waste collected will be taken to a facility near Wallingford where it is composted.
The compost will then be sold on to local farmers for use on their farmland.
More information about garden waste collections can be found on the South Oxfordshire garden waste page or the Vale garden waste page.
