Search for Families with VJ Day Connections

Thame Town Council would like to hear from the families of veterans who were prisoners of war in Japan. It’s estimated that there were 71,000 British and Commonwealth casualties of the war against Japan, including more than 12,000 prisoners of war who died in Japanese captivity.
Friday 15 August 2025 will mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, when Japan surrendered and World War II ended. In Thame, a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial Gardens and a concert for VJ veterans and their families have been planned.
Anyone with connections to VJ Day, should contact Cassie Pinnells via email or phone 01844 212 833.
