The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins
Date and time: 30/11/2024, 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Location: Thame Leisure Centre
Lord Williams’s Festival Chorus will be performing Karl Jenkins’ hugely popular masterpiece The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.
The work, first performed in 2000, charts the growing menace of a descent into war, interspersed with moments of reflection and shows the horrors that war brings, ending with the hope for peace in a new millennium, when ‘sorrow, pain and death can be overcome’.
The choir will also be performing Misa Criolla by Argentinian composer Ariel Ramirez. It was one of the first masses not in Latin shortly after the Second Vatican Council permitted use of the vernacular in Catholic churches. The Misa Criolla is widely regarded as a stunning artistic achievement that combines Spanish text with indigenous instruments and rhythms.
